Patience McElwee

British author born in 1910. She wrote both children's and adult novels, including three very hard to find pony novels. All three books have very attractive jackets, one illustrated by Sheila Rose, the other two possibly by Caney. (Not credited to him but they certainly look like his work.)

SUMMARY: Twins Adam and Jane come from America to live with their uncle in England. They have no idea what to expect, and what they find upon their arrival is a surprisingly young uncle, an incompetent housekeeper, twin horses and a spoiled bull! While Adam prefers the bull, Jane learns to ride hopes to make the Pony Club Team.

DARK HORSE
(HODDER & STOUGHTON 1958)
SUMMARY: A pair of children despair of living with their stuffy social climbing grandmother and long to live like the scruffy but happy horse dealers, the O'Briens.

THE MERRYTHOUGHTS
(HODDER & STOUGHTON 1960)
SUMMARY: A family learn to cope with country life when their father inherits a farm. Not sure how much horse content.
